Walk on the Wild Side
False Cape State Park

Take a 1-mile (round-trip) hike in the wilderness of False Cape State Park and find out what plants grow in this coastal environment and how they were used by American Indians. Look for animal tracks to see who lives here and how to distinguish between them. Trip meets at Little Island City Park in Sandbridge. Reservations are required. Call (757) 426-7128 to sign up.

Wild Women Weekend
False Cape State Park

From 4:00 p.m. Friday, September 2 to Noon on Sunday, September 4
Experience a weekend in the outdoors dedicated to women, ages 21 and up, and discover the natural and cultural history of False Cape State Park. Open the door to all of your senses by getting away and reconnecting with nature. During this 3-day, 2-night adventure, we will offer sessions on basic wilderness survival, coastal edibles, intro to kayaking and much more. The cost is $200 per person and includes all food, lodging, transportation within the park, and educational materials. Wild Foods Weekend

Join more than 100 wild food enthusiasts on this weekend that will take you into the woods and fields of North Carolina to identify, gather, and prepare wild foods. The climax of the weekend will be a wild feast composed of collected wild foods prepared by the participants. Vickie Shufer will be this year’s key note speaker on Backyard Greens. Choose from hundreds of native coastal plants at this yearly plant sale sponsored by the Virginia Native Plant Society. Plants will include trees, shrubs, herbs, and vines that grow in wetlands, shade plants, and sun lovers.
